The Reason for This Reference
Older printed directories are only one part of Missouri's record landscape. Present-day property entries belong to local assessors and recorders; election authorities keep voter registrations; libraries and archives preserve older directories, newspapers, maps, and indexes. Those sources use different search forms and have different limits. The reference brings together their routes, years, and access notes so a reader can choose an office or collection that fits the question.
How the Reference Is Organized
- Separate search paths: address records by street, historical city directories, and one-person record checks
- Record keepers: local assessors, recorders, election authorities, courts, vital-record offices, libraries, and archives
- Research methods: how to read an old directory entry, trace an address over time, or check a name against a second record
- Access notes: Missouri's Sunshine Law, restricted records, and the office route for material that is not online
Limits of Our Role
Missouri Residents Directory is a private reference, with no connection to a state or local agency, court, or library. Its limits include the following:
- No entry here confirms that a named person currently lives in Missouri
- We do not obtain, certify, or revise records for readers
- Only the responsible custodian can add a record to or remove it from an official system
- We do not provide legal advice about an entry or disagreement
- Portal links, coverage dates, and office details can change after review
Only the office that holds a record can confirm, certify, or correct it. Information found through the linked sources may not be used for any purpose regulated by the FCRA.
